Just when you thought the world couldn’t get any sicker you find out it actually can.
Sadly, after a litter of piglets and 2 pigs were (at the time) heroicly saved from a barn fire in Milton Lilbourne, Wiltshire – a village in England – six months later those same piglets were served up as sausage to the rescuing firefighters as a thank you. The pigs and piglets were initially being raised for slaughter, which is apparently why farmer Rachel Rivers felt it was ok to ‘gift’ the local Pewsey fire department with the pigs in such a way.
“I wanted to thank them. I promised them at the time I'd bring down some sausages for them, which they were all pleased about.”
“I gave those animals the best quality of life I could ever give until the time they go to slaughter and they go into the food chain,”Rivers stated.
“You do feel sad at the end of it…” River said.
Obviously not sad enough. Initially, this was very strange to hear considering I had always heard that many firefighters don’t eat pork because of its likeness to the smell of human flesh when burning. Obviously, I was completely wrong.
All in all, this just goes to show why vegan advocacy for ethical animal treatment is at an all time high. Shame on everyone that participated in this sadistic ‘gifting of sausages,’ and hopefully, it never happens again.
