We all know that feeling when you step on the scale for the first time in a long time…
Especially when you’ve been avoiding it.
I knew I was overweight, so getting on the scale was the last thing I wanted to do.
I remember looking down and seeing the numbers and them soooo much higher than I expected.
Of course I knew I needed to lose weight, but the number was just so… real.
As it stared back at me I felt ashamed. And I knew I didn’t want to experience that shame ever again.
I was 36 and I realized knew nothing about healthy eating.
Plus, I had always been a lazy eater, and my diet reflected that.
I was the typical busy, thirty-something that didn’t eat vegetables and ate a ton of processed crap.
That’s when I knew I had to make a change...
Coming from a single mother who worked long hours, my sister and I had us do a lot of the grocery shopping while our mother worked.
Which made us get used to adding up our items very carefully to make sure we didn’t go over budget. So naturally, we started believing that eating healthy was expensive and time-consuming, so we just went with the cheap junk we were used to.
I thought there was no way I was going to ever find food I could make, that tasted good, and was affordable AND healthy. No way!
Seeing that number on the scale made me figure out how to get healthy.
I started by looking online for answers. Ya know, healthy options I could easily get from the grocery store. Then I realized, I needed more than just a healthy alternative and more food options – I needed a plan.
What to eat and on what days. An easy to use visual guide to help shrink my ass and tone my body, and get those scale numbers down. It only made sense.
Making this healthy lifestyle switch wasn’t easy.
I was used to being lazy after getting home from work, diving on the couch, and eating some processed junk before I ate my crappy dinner. So the first step wasn’t to start using a meal plan, or even finding one. The first step was the real decision that things were going to have to change. Not for a few weeks, or even a few months – but forever!
Once this decision was made finding a meal plan to guide me was fun and simple!
Fast forward to a year later and I’ve kept it all going. And honestly, yes, the “meal plan” gave me incredible guidance, but what’s really kept it going was my decision that I was going to live a healthier lifestyle for good.
My meal plan has been incredible at keeping me motivated because I didn’t have to completely cut the foods I was used to eating out of my life. I just had to learn how and what to eat. It took a little time, but it all started coming together and I actually started to lose weight – and more importantly, feel better – which is the ultimate motivation.
It was only a little over a year ago that I was ashamed of my weight. And even though no one should be ashamed of how they look, with the social media these days, it can be difficult.
Not only did my food education and weight loss journey lead to a healthier body, it has absolutely led to a healthier mind.
It excites me to share my story because I want to show others that it’s not super difficult to make the change to a healthier lifestyle.
If you’ve ever felt the way that I did – shocked and upset at the numbers staring back at you on the scale, and also like it’s too hard to change – I want you to take a moment to acknowledge that you’re not alone.
The great news is that you don’t have to change everything overnight.
All you need to do is to finally make the decision to change, and then find a simple plan to help get you started.
I know you can do it because I did!
