The Different Types of Vegans
Albeit being the ultimate expression of compassion, people become vegan for many different reasons. I guess that’s the beauty of veganism. There’s no one path. People can choose whichever path that resonates best with them and use those passions to further the vegan cause. Whether they ARE animal lovers, environmentalists, health enthusiasts or spirituals… or just like being trendy -- there’s a place in the vegan world for all people. The best part is, no one person is limited to a single type. Many vegans are a combination of a few of those. In fact, most vegans are a combination of all. So, without further ado, here are the five different types of vegans.
These are your true vegans. The vegans that stand up for animals, protest, make noise and engage in activism of all sorts. These are the vegans who so fervently spread the word and attempt so persistently to educate everyday people into seeing the light. They are motivated by only one thing: compassion. They will not stand idle while the animals are being slaughtered, tortured and raped. For them, veganism is more than just a diet or a fashion statement. For them, Veganism is an ethical code of conduct; a way of life and a moral stance.
These are typically the health-conscious vegans. They work in the health and fitness industries, or are active in those communities. They want what’s best for their life and want to live healthily, happily, and vigorously. Most of them transitioned into veganism because they truly believe veganism is the healthiest choice for all humans. And they're right. A vegan diet is low in cholesterol, low in fat and high in vitamins (if done properly). These guys, albeit not being activists per se, are great for the cause because ,in many respects they act as the ‘poster boys/girls’ and lead by enervating the despised ‘all vegans are skinny and lacking nutrients’ stereotype.
WANNA CONNECT TO THE PLANT-BASED COMMUNITY?
These guys are most concerned with the future of the world as we know it. Global warming is a worrying issue and, if not tackled now, it could lead to the destruction of mankind. Our environmental vegan brethren know and understand the implications the meat and dairy industries have on our environment (as well as honey). They understand that veganism will reduce the impact of climate change and pollution. They so passionately advocate and remind the proletarians that raising animals for food produces more greenhouse gas emissions than all the cars, planes, and other forms of transportation combined.
Spiritual vegans are motivated by the belief that eating a compassionate, plant-based diet is not only best for our fellow living beings, and our benevolent Mother Earth, but also important for one’s personal spiritual evolution. They believe that, spiritually, we are all connected. There is a spiritual thread that joins us all together. What we do to other living beings, ultimately affects our spiritual destiny. They furthermore believe that a plant-based diet nourishes our mind, body, and spirit by raising our vibration and, eating animal products brings the suffering they experienced into our bodies and lives -- thus creating a tempestuous and negative vibration in us.
TREND FOLLOWING VEGANS
Let’s face it, our hard work is finally starting to show glimmers of change. It’s paying off. Yes, veganism is becoming trendy. And while trend following vegans are not doing it for the right reasons and are merely jumping on board the 'style boat' -- they are still vegan. Yes, some fake vegans are trying to look cool or impress a certain someone with their fabricated title, but hey, it’s something. The trendier veganism gets, the better it is for the animals and our planet. As irritating as it is, every vegan in this world counts. Even the clueless, sheepish vegans.
