How A Raw Vegan Diet Cured My MS

Some of you may have already embraced a vegan lifestyle. When I say “vegan”, I’m speaking in terms of Veganism. A vegan diet can reduce your risk of chronic ailments and diseases in itself but it’s not necessarily health promoting. I’d like to go a bit deeper for those in need of deep healing focusing on mind, body and soul. Currently, our general population is very sick with ailments ranging from eczema to cancer. You may have opened this article because you or someone you love are suffering from a debilitating ailment. As an Intuitive Life Coach, my position is to help to show you the body's capacity to heal. This doesn’t mean I directly heal people but I show my clients that they have the capacity to heal themselves through raw & plant based diets and implementing proper supplementation, herbs, affirmations and conscious movement.

I learned about the plant-based lifestyle on my healing journey through my own experience, I was suffering from abrupt onset MS symptoms. My body was failing me, I was at high levels of inflammation, my digestive tract was in pretty bad condition and I was very rarely “regular”. I was depressed, anxious and down on life entirely. I was in really bad shape, I was having issues with my eyesight, my speech and the right side of my body began to fail me and shut down. I was between a rock and a hard place, I could continue testing and maybe get a proper diagnosis. I had the choice to continue my suffering or make some drastic life changes.

While I personally did not want a diagnosis, because it gave me a label to my ailment, not a cause, I decided to step outside of the box and research every symptom I had and all the natural remedies you could think of. Within a week I switched to a fully raw diet and by day two, all of my pain was gone. How many people can say that? My house was clean. I was up and moving and actually feeling GOOD, my life was drastically different in that first 48 hours! This was the best decision I ever made for my health and while it's been a long & difficult journey, today I live with zero health concerns and I owe the utmost gratitude to plants for giving me my life back. I can live a healthy and vibrant life with my family and I can show my children the way to prevent ailments and diseases... Since knowledge is important to me, I find it even more important to give my children the gift of knowledge. These methods were imperative to my healing and I genuinely hope this message reaches someone who needs it and they find the motivation to stay proactive on their own journey to healing.

Raw Whole Foods

This is the most imperative principle. Diet is everything! Did you know in order to consume adequate vitamins and nutrients necessary for optimal function, we need to consume over 50% in raw fruits and veggies? Going fully raw is highly beneficial, this will bring the most effective form of healing on a cellular level. A high vibrational diet that increases your body’s ability to perform optimally consists of foods that are ALIVE and that positively benefit the person consuming them. High vibration means having more light, and thus, less density. Plants exemplify this by photosynthesizing light into energy.

You can prepare your body and mind for these new levels of energy & light with simply incorporating nourishing, high vibrational foods more into your everyday life. This energy & light is healing for the human body, it will bring you to optimal health, wellness and your highest self! For those who are not ready to go fully raw, you can also benefit from simply going just plant based & implementing the “Raw Til Dinner” concept. This means you eat no cooked foods all day, and eat a cooked plant-based dinner. This method is much more manageable for those transitioning from an Omni diet to a plant-based diet but still have highly optimal benefits and the ability to see fast changes in their health and within themselves.

Detox

Between environmental factors, toxins in our food, personal care products, cleaning products & luxury products we have high amounts of exposure to toxins and that is just within our home. This doesn’t even include what is outside of our homes causing potential damage. Avoiding these toxins is imperative for our vital organs to run optimally. The two more important organs when it comes to detox are our kidneys and liver. The kidneys' function is to filter the blood. The kidneys remove waste, control the body's fluid balance, and regulate the balance of electrolytes. Meanwhile, the liver has multiple functions. It makes many of the chemicals required by the body to function normally while breaking down and detoxifying substances in the body Our liver also aids in digestion which is the next important step to approach. So with a basic understanding of these organs, you can comprehend how imperative it is for these specific organs to run optimally and efficiently.

Dandelion Root not only purifies and cleanses the kidneys and liver but promotes proper functioning. Dandelion Root also soothes the digestive tract which is as stated above is another vital piece to detoxification, given it's our main excretion method. Along with following a high raw plant based diet & taking Dandelion Root, It's important to use proper supplementation to support detoxes like plant-based Vitamin C or Activated Charcoal. Vitamin C efficiently detoxifies the liver and Activated Charcoal works by binding toxins and passing them through your digestive tract.

Another way to help cleanse your body is to cleanse your colon, this will make detox much more efficient. Enemas can be highly beneficial and effective at breaking down not only blockages, backed up toxins but also excess mucus builds up in the lining of the colon. We want those babies running crystal clear for optimal absorption of vitamins and nutrients. To not only detox but then also replenish through the entire process.

Supplementation

While we all know that getting our vitamins and nutrients from food is essential, there are instances where supplementation can be beneficial & necessary. Especially those dealing with chronic ailments & diseases. There are thousands of supplements on the market and it can be difficult to figure out which ones are of the highest quality and which ones are no bueno. The easiest way to understand the supplement world is realizing you want all of your supplements derived from plant based sources. Raw and plant based supplements are always the most bioavailable to our bodies. Let’s be honest, we just don’t need and aren't able to process all the unnecessary fillers and additives. Don't let a vegan label convince you. They can still contain plenty of the unnecessary fillers and additives you are directly trying to avoid, even if the supplements are “vegan” by technicality. The purer the supplement ingredients are, the better the supplement is.

A few supplements to promote healing are Vitamin C, as stated above, we take it when we're sick but did you also know it's extraordinary at reducing inflammation in the body and that the main contributor of our ailments today is a direct correlation with inflammation. Great supplement options that I recommend for a pure Vitamin C supplement is Pure Synergy Radiance C Powder (great to use for kids) & Garden Of Life Raw Vitamin C. Next, we cannot forget our B vitamins. They give us energy, enhance mood, improve memory, and stimulate the immune system. Garden of Life Raw B Complex is the best B   Complex I've ever seen on the market. Taking two capsules of B complex (as advised on the label) and at least 1500mg of Vitamin C are great starters and will go a long way in itself to promote healing. These are two of the main supplements I look at when I feel I’m in need of deep healing/detoxification.

Plant-Based Essentials

You can find just about anything in powder form now, which makes using them that much easier and simplifies utilizing them on a daily basis. You can add them to the food you make, the smoothies you drink or even in a bowl of Nice Cream to add nutrient dense ingredients. These are essential and promote absorption for everything from protein, omegas, energy & stamina, essential vitamins to even adaptogen herbs. Our must have staples in our home are Hemp Hearts (protein & omegas) flaxseed (fiber) moringa powder, ashwagandha, maca powder, cacao powder, & turmeric.

Frugal tip: check out your local Marshall’s, Home goods and TJ Maxx for discounted prices on these items, 85% of the time they are Raw & organic! These powders are so beneficial and really easy to start incorporating! Research each one individually to see what you’re drawn to. Don’t underestimate your intuitive abilities while researching. If you’re drawn to it, you likely need it and would benefit from it.

Healthy Lymph

It is really important to get your lymphatic system flowing. The lymphatic system is part of the circulatory system and a vital part of the immune system, comprising a network of lymphatic vessels that carry a clear fluid called lymph (from Latin, lympha meaning "water”) directionally towards the heart. Your lymph system is a pressure system that runs best on physical activity and movement. The lymphatic system’s main function is to cleanse toxins and protect against harmful invaders. It works by carrying our body’s waste away from the tissues and into the bloodstream. It tackles toxins that are introduced to the body from both external means (food, air, personal care products, water) as well as internal ones (damaged proteins and cellular/metabolic waste), making it a key detoxification pathway. When your lymph is clogged your body looks for alternative ways to get rid of trash. Your body’s “Plan B” is making mucous out of it. Lots of mucous drainage in the morning is a sure sign of a problem.

Another strategy is to shunt toxins in the direction of your skin, which contributes to acne, dry skin, and other skin issues especially from the chest or back on up to the neck and face. If your lymph is clogged then lactic acid and other inflammatory debris will accumulate in the fluid around cells and have no place to go, as the main plumbing outlets (thoracic ducts) are clogged or their trash clearing function is reduced below optimal levels. Pressure, stiffness, or pain building up in any region is a sign of lymphatic congestion. When children develop lymphatic congestion, their ears do not drain properly as the pressure back up won't let them, in turn causing various ear-related issues such as chronic ear infections. Conscious movement is so clearly very important and  3 of my favorite ways to get the lymphatic system flowing if obviously *surprise surprise*, RAW FOODS! Rebounding is one of the easiest ways to pump the lymph. Rebounding is the practice of jumping on a trampoline for ten to thirty minutes.

My third favorite method is a TCM practice called dry skin brushing. It’s a technique commonly utilized in Ayurveda for assisting in lymphatic flow and boosting circulation. You simply take a dry brush and brush the skin towards the heart. This stimulates the sweat glands, opens pores, and gets rid of dead skin cells. It also encourages the movement of lymph and blood in underlying organs and tissues of the body, which helps clear built-up toxins! My biggest tip, drink adequate amounts of water a day, preferably lemon water to alkalize the body and promote digestion.

Positivity

We may not realize what an influence our thoughts have but their impact is incredible. I was consistently in a state of realizing that every time I put myself down, I was using my word against myself. I made an agreement with myself that I needed to make up for that with TWO positive affirmations regarding the situation for every ONE negative thing I said to myself. Implementing this method every time it would happen, helped me to retrain my brain to see the good in every situation and seek the lesson instead of focusing on the problem. Not only did I turn myself over to the universe to allow & trust whatever may come was for my highest benefit. I also switched up my way of thinking.

There is good in every situation even if you cannot see it at the time, there is always a life lesson to be learned when you pay close enough attention. When you can offer up gratitude for the life experience in general, you will start seeing the positive reaction in yourself when things go wrong. Gratitude is one of the greatest ways to raise our vibration. When we shift our thoughts to positivity & give thanks; we can see our life change before our eyes. We are happier, less stressed, less worried which all directly linked to the risk of chronic ailments. It takes a higher level of consciousness to implement this step. Raw foods inherently raise our consciousness which in turn makes this step, that much easier. It comes full circle.

 

I have personally implemented all of these healing principles in my life and they changed my life for the better. Switching from the paleo diet to raw vegan has changed my life from the inside out, these principles were essential for my transition to healing. I hope these principles can help you to do the same and bring you to your highest most vibrant health and conquer any obstacles that stand in your way!
